Oh my goodness they look so skinny like they might break without their fluffy fleece. I had no idea alpacas were so thin and skinny underneath all that fluff! Love this post! Thanks for sharing.

Our spoiled girls are even on the heavier side! It is such a shock every year to see them afterward.

It's been nine hours and several washings later, and we both keep catching random wiffs of alpaca. 😂🤢 The spitting is such an odd but effective defense mechanism. I think we're all friends again, though!

It is odd. One wonders how the spitting evolved into alpaca defense. Do they have special tongues or muscles in their throats or something? Imagine if sheep spat. Thousands of sheep all at the same time spitting at sheep dogs and the farmer rolling past on his four wheeler. The horror! Fascinating really!

If sheep spat, the dogs would surely be owed hazard pay!

They look so different without their fleece! Am looking forward to meeting some real life alpacas this summer in Peru.

Our first year, after shearing Julio wondered if we were feeding them enough! It's such a dramatic change.

I hope you love the alpacas! They are such a charming mixture of whimsical and aloof.
