An icon of nosiness! 😂 There was a family vacation when I carried around a notebook and tried to spy like her. My brother and cousin teased me for years.
My goal this year is to be better with consistently writing in a note book. Often, I have all these ideas and forget them almost as soon as I thought them. The notes app on my phone is one way to write them down and I’ve become better at using it. But it doesn’t feel “personal” like a paper version does. Here’s to writing more notes on paper this year!
Wonderful! I hope that a paper notebook works well for you and you get a lot out of the practice! I forget to write ideas down too, sure that I will remember them when I get to my desk, and then when I can't, I'm like "Kasey, this is what the notebook is for!" haha
Thankful for your note today that linked back to this essay, from before I found you! I’ve discovered that having one notebook for my work - where all of meeting notes, along with To Do lists, brainstorming ideas, calls with people, etc., go is what works best. I also leave a few pages blank at the beginning so that I can number the pages and create a running table for contents (a la bullet journalling) but I never fill them in. I buy cheap hardbound lined books at the dollar store for this, but they must have pretty covers! Then I have a daily agenda (paper) that I do time block planning in.
However…what I don’t have is a place for notes like what you describe here. It’s time.
I'm impressed when people take the time to do a table of contents. I am not quite that organized, but I love hearing about other people's notetaking styles and it sounds like you have a great system.
I didn't keep a notebook for many years, but then my wife got me a journal for running, and it's been nice writing down some brief notes on my daily run. 🙂
Oh my gosh Harriet the Spy! What a blast from the past—I swear you just gave me back a piece of my childhood 😄

LOL Same! I didn’t get teased, but I legit tried to be Harriet too! I got that exact notebook and everything 😆
I love that!

Thanks so much for reading!

Oh yeah no. I leave space for them. That’s all 🤣
Well it's a start! lol
You write so beautifully. You really need to write a book. My suggestion is to write about your life on the farm with a 3 yr old.
Thank you! <3 I appreciate your support so much. I am working on it!

Your wife must be a beautiful genius and must also love you very much to get you such a useful gift.
